A Birthday Card for Tim Holtz!
Using any technique from A Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 1 or 2

Well, guys, it's hard to believe, but this is the final Compendium of Curiosities 2 Challenge! What an awesome experience it's been, and whether you've been here from the beginning or are visiting for the  first time, I want you to know how very much I appreciate you. You guys are brilliant!

It's not entirely a coincidence that we finished working our way through Tim's fabulous book at the  end of the year. Tim's birthday is coming up in a few days, and it only seems right to wrap up this project with a celebration of the guy who works so hard and gives so much to inspire us all.

And so, for this grande finale, your mission to is create a birthday card for Tim, using your favorite technique from the Compendium series! Any technique from either of the books.

Oh, did I mention the prize? It's pretty special. It begins with this very hard-to-find Tim Holtz embroidered canvas apron:

Wait, it gets even better: Tim and Mario will personally autograph the apron especially for the winner of this challenge! I'll take the apron to the Craft and Hobby Association Show in mid-January and they'll sign it there. I'll even snap a photo of the moment and send it along with the apron.

I'll also throw in some fun Ranger, Sizzix and Idea-ology goodies, courtesy of Mario!

This challenge opens for submissions today and closes on Tim's birthday, January 7, at 11:59pm (Mountain Time). The winner will be announced the following morning.

Once you've uploaded your photo, leave a comment if you need Tim's address and I'll email it to you so you can send your card to him. (Please don't ask for his address if you haven't submitted a card to this challenge-- that would not be cool!)

Ready to join this world-wide virtual birthday party?! Please spread the word, and let's make this awesome for Tim!

Thanks again, you guys. Crafters are without a doubt the kindest, most positive and supportive people on Earth, and it's a privilege to have the opportunity to admire your work and get to know you as we explore our art together.

Happy New Year!!!

Much love,
Linda

P.S. This series just wouldn't have been the same without the support of Simon Says Stamp, The Funkie Junkie Boutique, and InLinkz! Thanks so much to them for their generosity and all-around greatness!

Tissue Tape!
Sponsored by Simon Says Stamp
Making snow is easy! Just put down a thick layer of Studio white gesso, let it dry, then
cover it with a mix of Snow Cap paint and Picket Fence Distress Stickles

Happy, magical Friday, blog friends, and welcome to challenge #33 from Tim Holtz's fantabulous "A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2!" I'm posting early this week, as my sweet mom is in town visiting and we've got a jam-packed three-day weekend coming up!

Challenge 33 is all about Tim's cool Tissue Tape, which has become a craft room staple for so many of us. It's versatile, fun, and comes in all kinds of great designs. Tim shows several ways to use it in the CC2, and you're welcome to incorporate any of those techniques-- or one of your own!-- in your entry for this challenge!

I especially enjoyed this week's project, because I got to try something I've been thinking about for a while-- turning Tim's adorable Sizzix Halloween Shadows Trick-or-Treaters die into little carolers. That's one of the best things about his designs-- you can always find a fun new way to use them! Cutting the shape out of white cardstock, trimming off the jack o'lantern and other Halloween-y elements, and coloring it with Distress Markers allowed me to transition these tiny revelers over to the winter holidays.

The wonderful folks at Simon Says Stamp sponsor our second challenge every month, and as always, they'll be giving a generous $25 gift certificate to one lucky, randomly chosen participant of the CC2C. What a nice little holiday treat!!!

Paper Rosette!

Happy December, blog friends! I hope you're all having a great month so far, and getting lots of time to enjoy doing the things you love. This is my favorite time of year to craft, and I bet I'm not alone in that sentiment!

This week's CC2 Challenge celebrates one of Tim Holtz's most clever products, the Paper Rosette die! If you used it, you know how much fun it is, and if not, I hope you give it a try-- you'll be delighted and addicted, I can pretty much guarantee! There are so many great possibilities for this simple-but-brilliant strip die, everything from garlands to pinwheels to little paper wreaths.... and more! Let your imagination go wild with this, and show us your favorite way to use Tim's Paper Rosette.

To participate in CC2C #32, create your own work of art using the Paper Rosette technique on page 63 and link it to this blog using the InLinkz button at the bottom of this post. You're golden as long as you honor these simple rules:
Follow the technique as it's written in A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2 (adding your own special flair, of course!), and clearly state that the technique comes from Tim's book.

Updated: Tim Holtz Configurations Holiday House!

It's the most wonderful time of the year....!

Welcome to Santa's townhouse, constructed from a  6.75 x 8.75-inch Tim Holtz Configurations set, which is like a shadow box, a curio cabinet and a ridiculously fun craft project, all rolled into one. I absolutely love these things, and if you enjoy collecting little trinkets and making 3D art, you'll love them, too. I went all Extreme Christmas with mine, and made this holiday decoration a couple of years ago. Come on in and I'll give you a tour...

The little Santa figurines are very special to me. They're part of a set my mom always displayed during the holidays when I was little, and a few of years ago she gave them to me. They're very vintage, chipped a little, and I love them dearly.

All papers used for this project are from the Tim Holtz Seasonal Paper Stash.

Trying to hang the Christmas lights while the bird and gingerbread man giggle...

The 2010 Starbucks ornament. It's not Christmas without a giant cup of Holiday Blend! It's hard to tell, but those are real coffee bean at the base.

Tim Holtz Baubles and Facets, hung with silver wire. Santa is also from the Seasonal Paper Stash

Almost time for the Jolly Old Elf to slide down the chimney! Here is a Tim Holtz Time Piece and a couple of Game Spinners, with a little cardinal and tiny tree from the discount craft store.

"Fra-GEE-lay! It must be Italian!"

The teeny little cookies, coffee cup, tree, pine cones and snowflake are all from the discount craft store.

Kitty and snowman are also from the craft store. The little ball of yarn is made with a length of candy cane-colored twine.

Here's the back of the townhouse (or, maybe this is the front?). The roof is made from wooden cigar box inserts (hooray for pre-mitered corners!). The green section beneath the roof and the base are both foam board. The snow is a combination of Grumbacher Molding Paste and Golden's Glass Bead Gel, with copious amounts of Picket Fence Distress Stickles

More from the Seasonal Paper Stash. I cut the windows from the backside of the decorated paper and glued them on top of the scenes.

Ditto!

The wreath is a Tim Holtz Alterations Rosette, cut in half before gluing it into a ring to allow for an open space in the center.

The street address? Why, 25 Santa Claus Lane, of course! Idea-ology Numerals say so!

Over on the other side of the house, there's another little Santa Facet.

Here's a closer look. He's very jolly! I suspect it's because he got a Vagabond for Christmas...

Thanks so much for stopping by! I wish I could give you a cup of hot cocoa. Have a beautiful day, and a wonderful holiday season!
