Compendium of Curiosities 2, Challenge 26!

Crumpled Kraft Suede
Tim Holtz: A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2, page 40

Happy Friday, blog friends! I'm home after spending most of the past week in beautiful Portland, Oregon (alas, it was for work, not play, but it was still lovely....). How did it get to be the last week of October?? Are you ready for Halloween? I haven't even carved a jack-o-lantern yet, so my weekend is going to be all about decorating (and trying not to eat those mini candy bars that surely can't have any calories because, you know, they're SO teeny tiny).

We in the "home stretch" of the CC2C now: The final ten techniques! This week's is one of my favorites. I learned about it at Ranger U last year, and it's just so, so cool. If you've never made faux suede using Ranger Ink Refresher, you're about to have your mind blown! I don't know why Ink Refresher has the seemingly magical ability to completely alter the feel and look of regular ol' cardstock, but it does. It's rad, you guys, and I hope you'll give it a try!

Custom-Etched Glass Tutorial!

Pin It Happy Friday, and happy Halloween season, Blog Friends!

I've always loved etched glass. It's elegant, it's organic, and it adds such a festive touch to your decor. On the down side, though, it can get pretty expensive. Sure, you could go out and buy fancy etched glass decorations, but really, why do that when it's so much fun to make your own?! All you need are your favorite dies (in my case, Tim Holtz's Sizzix Alterations), a few inexpensive supplies, and about ten minutes of crafty time. Really!

I'm honored to have my Custom-Etched Glass tutorial featured at the Simon Says Stamp blog today, and I'd be delighted if you'd check it out! Etching glass is my latest creative obsession, and I hope to get you hooked, too. Simon Says Stamp has everything you need to get started.

With Halloween creeping up on us, you could create a few Scaredy Cat Votive Holders for your Trick or Treat party...

(Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Raven and Scaredy Cat Bigz Die)

While you're at it, how 'bout an etched champagne flute for your favorite hard cider?
(Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Mini Tattered Leaves Movers and Shapers Die)

Or, a little etched pumpkin jar for your candy corn?
(Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Mini Acorn and Pumpkin Movers and Shapers Die)

Trust me, this process is super easy! Please head over to the Simon Says Stamp blog for the instructions, and you'll be an etching rockstar in no time!

Big hugs,
Linda

Ink Palette: Perfect Pearls
Sponsored by Simon Says Stamp

Hooray for Friday, and welcome to the 25th installment of our journey through Tim's latest book! This is the first of several challenges that will utilize the new Ranger Ink Palette, a clever tool that will help you use some of your favorite craft mediums in fun new ways. This week is all about those gorgeous, shimmery Perfect Pearls powders, and if you'll turn to page 53 in your CC2, you'll learn how to turn them into a portable, customized watercolor set. Genius!!!

The wonderful folks at Simon Says Stamp sponsor our second challenge every month, and as always, they'll be giving a generous $25 gift certificate to one lucky, randomly chosen participant of the CC2C. Simon Says is an awesome store, and the people there are flat-out wonderful! Stop by and check out their absolutely mind-blowing selection-- it's better than chocolate (and I don't say that about ANYTHING)!

Alcohol Ink Resist

Happy Friday, everyone, and welcome to the 24th Challenge from Tim Holtz's latest book! I hope you've all had a fabulous week and wonder if, like me, you're getting into the ol' Halloween spirit...? It really feels like fall here in Boise now, in fact, we may have had our first frost last night. I'm too cozy to go out and check right now. ;-)

This week's technique is one I originally learned at Ranger U last year, and it's kind of magical! You just don't expect those particular products to react together like they do, and it's really, really cool. You'll notice that instead of acetate, I used glass as my base. It works just as well, and is more forgiving if you need to wipe it all off and start again. And honestly, this technique usually takes a few tries before you get the hang of it. Don't get discouraged! It's such a quick process; you'll have it down in no time!

To participate in CC2C #24, create your own work of art using the Alcohol Ink Resist technique on page 59 and link it to this blog using the InLinkz button at the bottom of this post. You're golden as long as you honor these simple rules:
Follow the technique as it's written in A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2 (adding your own special flair, of course!), and clearly state that the technique comes from Tim's book.
Include a link to this post in your blog post (or photo description if you're linking from an online photo-sharing site).  This is required in order to be eligible to win the prize.
Out of respect to Tim, please don't post the technique instructions on your blog! Any entries that don't follow this rule will be unlinked.
This challenge closes on Thursday, October 11 at 8 pm MTD. Please see the CC2C FAQ here for more information.
